busted speaker - route sound to mono?
« on: August 30, 2015, 11:51:53 pm »
I have a acer aspire 5336 running pm6.
Runs great except my right speaker is busted.
Is it possible to reroute my speaker sound to mono but leave the headphone jack as stereo ?
How would i do that? (I don't mind if i need to run a script to switch from mono to stereo but would perfer it to be "seamless and automatic".
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!!

Dunno about making it automatic, but have you seen this:

maybe installing gnome-alsamixer might make things easier (?)

the command line instructions do nothing for my system and gnome-aslamixer does not have the options shown in the pictures on that thread.
not sure how else to do this - don't want to carry speakers everywhere.

Ok.
After some playing with settings I got the system to route audio to mono for all outputs with the instructions linked above!
Would rather have stereo on headphone but at least the speakers work.
Will leave this open a few days while testing to see if anybody comes up with a better solution.

Continuing to play with this has yielded weird results.
The Command line instructions posted above work after "fiddling"(technical term) with the output settings. So I followed the instructions to make it permanent . But after a reboot I have to "fiddle" with the settings again. The problem is that it becomes a crap shoot of playing with it to get it to work - I know how it should be set but just setting it that way wont work. I have to play with different settings at random then put it back the way it should be, test , repeat as needed until it works.

Any ideas?
