uBlock Origin vs. Adblock Plus
« on: August 05, 2015, 08:12:29 pm »
I personally prefer uBlock Origin but I thought you all might be interested in the memory usage of each.

tl;dr: Adblock uses significant more memory than uBlock.

So far I'm really liking uBlock Origin .. thanks for the heads up :)

I'd like to request (as with any ad blocking software) that people show their support for Peppermint by  whitelisting this forum, and any other FOSS sites you use...

FOSS may be free to use, but it's not free to produce/host/support ;)

No problem! Luckily, whitelisting in uBlock is as easy as clicking on the power button in the extension dropdown while on the site.

Hm, I've never tried uBlock.  I'll have to take a look at it.   8)

I found AdBlock Plus several years ago, once ads changed from simple banners to videos and things that pop up inside your window to avoid your pop-up blocker.  Of course, I keep it deactivated on this site, which just has banners and needs the ad revenue, and a couple others that I frequent.  Anyway, it's been my go-to ad blocker in Firefox ever since.  It never even occurred to me to try something else.

That's probably why I get ads sometimes on sites I haven't whitelisted on my Android tablet.  I run Firefox on there with ABP and I get ads on IMDb.  I hope uBlock can take care of that.  I'll try it out later.  Plus, I figure the lower system usage will be good on my tablet and laptop.   8)

Thanks for the tip. I have installed uBlock and giving that a try rather than Adblock which I have tended to use.
