I felt a great disturbance in The Force...
« on: July 29, 2015, 05:12:12 pm »
...as if millions of voices suddenly cried out...

...and called Microsoft support.   :P

Sorry, I couldn't resist.  (anyone who has seen Star Wars and/or knows what "big release" happened today should get the joke)

Time will tell if it will be warmly received or not.

Currently my 4 month old i3 laptop takes ages to boot up while running 8.1

Not happy running Windows.

I'm not happy running Windows either.  That's why I don't run it anymore.   8)

I'll bet M$ support was busy the other day, though, and probably still is.  Based on what I was reading from some of the comments on GOG's announcement that 85% of their games were Win10 ready was that not everybody got the upgrade when it was released.  Probably, due to sever load, it was distributed in the order in which people signed up for it.  Plus, I'm sure there have been a lot of upgrade issues and other things.  I'm just glad I'm very far away from that circus.   :D

well speed is all relative - I press the power button and within 20 secs I am ready to use windows 8.1

i5 8gb RAM

how much quicker do you need it ?

will do a comparative test once Peppermint comes with UEFI (hopefully soon)  :D

and once windows 10 is offered

I think it takes longer than 20 seconds for my desktop to get past the boot splash screen on my motherboard.  ;)  Boot up speed has never been a selling point for me.  Performance is.  To me, nothing performs better than Peppermint.  But, that's my personal taste talking, not an actual statistical analysis.  At least I don't get BSODs in Linux like I did in Windows 7.  (the highest version of Windows I've used on my computers.)
