No.  Not getting any errors at this time.  Several weeks back I did get errors as it indicated that I had duplicate recommended and security updates so I removed the duplicates with Synaptic.

OK, for some reason your system has downloaded the new Ubuntu version of base-files (7.2ubuntu5.2) which is the new version for the 14.04.2 release .. it should NOT have done that as packages from the Peppermint PPA should take priority  :-\

Anyway .. to fix it run these commands in sequence:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install base-files=7.2ubuntu5+peppermint1
now check you have version 7.2ubuntu5+peppermint1 installed by running:
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep base-files
and if it mentions 7.2ubuntu5+peppermint1 as the version .. check:
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/lsb-release
reads:
Code: [Select]
DISTRIB_ID=Peppermint
DISTRIB_RELEASE=5
DISTRIB_CODENAME=trusty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Peppermint Five"
if it does, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub
then just to be sure it doesn't happen again, lets put a hold on that package:
Code: [Select]
sudo echo "base-files hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections
now test the GRUB menu and inxi read correctly

Is anyone else running Peppermint 5 getting this same problem ?

If everyone else running Peppermint 5 is having this same problem, I'll update the version number of the base-files package in our Peppermint 5 PPA so the fix will come via an update.

It worked!  I'm back to Peppermint.  See below:

jlschwartz@jlschwartz-AOA150 ~ $ dpkg -l | grep base-files
hi  base-files                                                  7.2ubuntu5+peppermint1                                      i386         Debian base system miscellaneous files

Grub shows Peppermint too.  Thank you very much for all of your help.  ;D

Hi PCNetSpec,

I'm running Peppermint Five on one machine that is updated with synaptic very regularly -- today I did the last update -- and I do NOT have this problem. My base-files and the output from cat /etc/lsb-release are normal.

scifidude's VM install also seems to suggest this was a one off hiccup but I thought I'd better ask.

Cheers Slim.Fatz :)
