LEFT HANDED MOUSE BUTTONS RENDER TRACK-PAD UNUSABLE

Hi, I'm posting here at Mark Greaves' invitation/suggestion (Thanks, BTW).

I have a question about Mouse button controls.  My daughter is a leftie.  I used the GUI's mouse control settings on the most recent version of Peppermint to reverse the button layout of her mouse.  That worked fine, however, that also changed the control layout of the track pad.  Now that wouldn't be a problem if the change only affected the track-pad's buttons.  However it has affected the manner in which you enter inputs when tapping the track-pad, so that now normal inputs require two fingers while traditional secondary "left-click" type of inputs use only one, which renders the track-pad virtually unusable.  Is there any way of fixing this so that the track-pad behaves normally, while leaving the mouse buttons oriented for lefties?  If not, Team Peppermint could you please look into adding track pad settings that are separate from the mouse settings?

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS:  If this is not the correct sub-forum to post this, please let me know.

Hi Isthmus, and welcome to the forum :)

With the mouse connected, can you open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and post the output from running this command:
Code: [Select]
xinput listback here.

(remember, you can copy/paste from/to both the terminal and this forum)

Sorry I'd replied to your other posting in General Discussion .. I've now deleted that double posting.

[EDIT]

Further Info

I take it you want the mouse buttons reversed, but the trackpad to stay completely as is ?

If this is the case, first set everything back to right-handed

Now when you run:
Code: [Select]
xinput listyou should see the mouse listed somethng like:-
Code: [Select]
↳ Logitech Optical USB Mouse              id=13 [slave  pointer  (2)]
You need to remember the Logitech Optical USB Mouse part (including case).

Now (using the above example) back in the terminal, run:
Code: [Select]
xinput set-button-map "Logitech Optical USB Mouse" 3 2 1that should reverse the mouse buttons without changing the trackpad.

Be aware, this will NOT survive a reboot, but if you confirm it does what you want, we'll post instructions to autostart that command at every login.

Hi Isthmus, and welcome to the forum :)...

Thanks for the welcome and the info Mark.  Yes you surmised the problem and what I want to do correctly.  I will follow your instructions tonight when I get home and report back.  If it works I will want to make the change permanent.

Thanks again for the help.
