Peppermint 6 won't install
« on: July 01, 2015, 06:06:56 pm »
Newbie trying to install Peppermint 6 on an old laptop (480MB RAM, 55.8 GB hard drive).

After I select any of the options on the first splash screen (Try the OS, Install the OS, Check the disk, etc) a screen full of upside down "U"s comes up for about 30 seconds then the screen goes blank.  I tried it with a CD and with a DVD.  With both, the disk drive is not running and the computer is strangely quiet.

Hi Banzai

Welcome to the forum

My guess is this is almost certainly a graphics issue which may require you to boot using the nomodeset boot parameter

Try this....

Boot to the Peppermint 6 LiveCD/LiveUSB .. when you get to the screen where it offers you "Try Peppermint" and "Install Peppermint" ..  hit the "Tab" key

You'll then see some white writing at the bottom of screen that ends with

quiet splash --

Use the backspace key to remove quiet splash --

and replace it with nomodeset

then hit enter to continue booting.

Did that make any difference ?

If you can keep your head while all around are losing theirs then you're not quite grasping the situation
