Rather confused/confusing review
« on: June 30, 2015, 07:04:32 am »
Dunno what to make of this:
https://orcaflotta.wordpress.com/2015/06/26/peppermint-6-the-linux-distro-by-which-all-others-will-be-judged/

it whinges about lack of software then suggests the idea of light and fast is good

it whinges about lack of software then suggests we picked the same software as she would have

suggests it's missing some "pizzaz" but then only "really" moans about the lack of LibreOffice

in one breath seems to understand the "cloudiness/light/streamlined approach and that you can easily install whatever software you like, and in the next bemoans the lack of LibreOffice and calls us "too bareboned and skimpy"

it bitches about how "mundane" being based on 14.04.2 is, then suggests the best distro out there is Mint 17.x (with Mint 17.2 due for release .. which will be based on 14.04.2)

Suggests LXLE and Manjaro feel like "some kinda testbuild, a wobbly experimental construction that could go b00m anytime" .. then suggests Peppermint is better, then reverses direction again and says LXLE and Manjaro are the "Best examples of the lightweight family", then reverses direction yet again and in the same paragraph suggests "For the time being Peppermint is your OS of choice"

Colour me now as confused as the author obviously is :-\

Interesting!  What a prolific writer?!?!?   >:(

I'm NOT a doctor, but ... the author appears to suffer from diarrhea of the mouth, and constipation of the brain.

THAR SHE BLOWS

I plead the fifth .. keeping my gob shut so I don't get into trouble ;)
(okay a slightly modified fifth)

[EDIT]

The weird thing is, if you take out the crazy zigzagging it's probably not a bad review....
(I think :-\ )

I dropped off after; "they are trying to go a bit in the Chromebook direction."  Really?  Well, in that case, Kendall Weaver must be a time traveler, since Peppermint OS first came out more than a full year before the first Chromebooks hit the market.  Ice was first released on July 20, 2010, which is still well before the first Chromebook release on June 15, 2011.  So, according to this individual, Peppermint is trying to copy something that came out after it.  Damn you guys!  You should know better than to do that!   :P

I didn't remember the exact dates (thank goodness for Wikipedia) but I do remember discussing Chrome OS and Chromebooks on the old forum when that stuff was about ready to come out, that's how I knew that part of the "review" at the very least was BS.

Though, judging from the bit I read and Mark's first post, I don't feel a great need to read the rest of the review anyway.  It definitely seems like this person should stop getting high before writing reviews.

Yeah the "Peppermint is Linux's answer to Chromebooks/ChromeOS"

We're not an "answer" to anything (other than possibly a gap in the market, both then and now) .. including the idiots who bring up Ubuntu netbook remix, which was a TOTALLY different concept.

I get really annoyed by people that comment without bothering to try understand what they're commenting on.

Yeah, that really bugs me too.  That's why, when I saw that Chromebook thing, I just went, "OK, this person really does have her head up her butt," and I stopped reading.

Saying Peppermint is trying to copy Chromebooks would be like saying Unity and Gnome-Shell are trying to copy Metro.  It's impossible to copy something if you came before it!   ::)

Edit:  I just went back to the old forum and searched for "Chrome" and it looks like Chrome OS was in beta when Peppermint One was first released.  Yeah, Kendall was copying Chrome OS.  ::)
