I keep trying to open the Desktop Preferences but it keeps telling me that the Desktop manager is not active. So what do I do?

Hi rossvassilev,

Which program do you mean when you say Desktop Preferences? Do you mean the Peppermint Control Center or do you mean Customize Look and Feel? I ask because I do not have a program listed that is named Desktop Preferences:-\

Also: Have you switched to a different WM (window manager) such as Openbox or JWM ? Or have you changed anything using the terminal with the gsettings configuration tool? If so, what did you change?

Regards,

Desktop Preferences is what you get when you right-click on the desktop to change the wallpaper, etc. in Peppermint 5.  Unfortunately, I'm no longer running 5, so I don't know how to help.   :(

Edit:  OK, new information.  I'm running P5 in VirtualBox.  The Desktop manager is the file manager, which is PCManFM.  I'm assuming there's a daemon that's supposed to autostart for managing the desktop.  Why it's not, I don't know.  I'm investigating.

@rossvassilev:  Please run this in the terminal:

Code: [Select]
gedit ~/.config/lxsession/Peppermint/desktop.conf

Please copy and paste the contents here using the code tags.  Thanks.  I may be wrong, but I believe that file could possibly hold the answers we seek.  ;)

Hi rossvassilev, are you using Peppermint Five or Peppermint Six?  Your profile is saying Peppermint Five.  I was looking at your previous posts and they indicate you may have upgraded to Peppermint Six.  Could you confirm which one it is  ;)?
