Network connectivity drops (abandoned)
« on: June 24, 2015, 09:52:47 am »
I will be using my wna3100 wifi dongle, sometimes for more than an hour at a time and then suddenly all Internet traffic will stop.

This often happens while I have a torrent running.

To fix, I either need to reboot or unplug the wifi dongle and plug it back in.

This does not happen when I use my tablet as a wifi adapter.

Any ideas?

I plug in my Asus phone pad 7 using the micro USB cable, go to settings and enable USB tethering. Then my desktop can use it to connect to the WiFi network.

The router is in a different house, about ten meters away. I did buy a wifi range extender - so it is not due to poor signal quality.

Conky shows that I am connected to the network, I have an ip address and signal quality is above 50%. Still, chromium cannot open a website and my torrent client freezes.

Happens with both the default torrent client and deluge.

When it freezes are you able to ping the routers IP address ?
ping -c 5 <IP.address.of.router>

eg:
Code: [Select]
ping -c 5 192.168.0.1

Thanks I will test that next time it happens.

When I loose connection, my cell phone is still connected to the same wifi network and can browse the Internet.

Which is why I think it's a loss of wireless connection...

When it next looses the internet, along with the ping output, can you also post the output from:
Code: [Select]
iwconfig
and
Code: [Select]
sudo iwlist scan
Obviously you'll need to copy the outpt to a text file ... then do whatever you need to get back online .. then post the output from the text file.

So, I have been testing my Internet connection for days now. It works perfectly, except when I torrent (deluge and transmission).

I have run the commands you requested:

When the connection drops deluge stops responding and I need to force close it. It is not the worst thing if I cannot torrent, just very strange that nothing else crashes the wifi connection.

Connection has dropped twice this afternoon (without me torrenting), thing is: this adapter worked fine one my previous desktop using 32 bit drivers.

From the other thread I see that this might not have a fix. Will have to see what I can do next. I am thinking of donating this PC to someone, as I don't need a desktop and a laptop.

Have you considered just using PM6 32bit ;)

Have you considered just using PM6 32bit ;)

Maybe I should look into that, when I have time ...

I've found 64bit windows drivers don't work as well as 32bit ones  via ndiswrapper

in fact most 64bit windows drivers don't work at all via ndiswrapper.
