Hi, I've been trying Peppermint 5 a bit and quite liked it. I noticed 6 was out so I've tried to install it on my Aspire V5-121 netbook alongside various other Linuxes in a multiboot. It let me install fine and prompted me to reboot and then all I got were squares of randomly flashing coloured lines, as if a Commodore 64 game was loading  :-\. When I try in recovery mode the same happens after 'loading initial ramdisk'. I then tried to run it live off the USB and just got the same disco display.

Peppermint 5 works basically OK on the same machine. I can probably get into any logs for 6 if I know what to look for. Anyone else had this problem or know what it could be? Thanks in advance.

Your system obviously doesn't like something in the new kernel and graphics stack.

Theoretically if you can boot into another Linux, you could chroot into Peppermint 6 and downgrade the kernel and xorg stack.

Here's a strange thing though. I tried the live USB on my other two PCs (Dell OptiPlex 760 desktop and HP Pavilion Dv7 laptop) and and it won't run on them either. After the initial menu and "try out Peppermint" it just reboots on both. Checked the MD5 of my ISO and it's what it's supposed to be. WTF?

Hi murraymint,

What program did you use to make your Peppermint Six live USB?

Hi Slim. It was the built-in USB creator on Linux Mint.

Now I've gone to Windows and made 2 more USBs 2 different ways.

RMPREPUSB: Got a bit further into the boot on the Aspire V5 and then seemed to hang after a "trace". It boots on the Dell desktop so I'm installing it on that.

EASY2BOOT: Managed to boot into Peppermint 6 on the Aspire and am now installing it there.

I'll report back on what success I have.

OK, Peppermint 6 is now installed on both the netbook and the desktop!  8)

I'll try out the Mint USB tool again at some point, maybe the USB stick itself is duff.

Congratulations, murraymint!!

For some reason some machines boot Live USBs created with on program but not from another. Glad you got it worked out. Let us know how you get along with Peppermint Six.
