Any way, many thanks for patching the driver. Hopefully all is okay with the camera now. I am sure the instructions you have posted will help others too.

Congrats again on Peppermint OS- I am loving it.

Now I will try to get the other special hardware keys on my vaio vgn-ux1xn working. This is my (free time) project for this week.

Done.

BTW: Skype video is not working. If I cannot get it to work I will open another thread in the software section.

I still cannot get video to work skype 4.2 to work. Also, when running Cheese from terminal, I noticed the following error today, but Cheese does seem to work fine. I do not know if this is behind the Skype video issue. Skype does show the correct video device in settings.
Code: [Select]
jm@ux1xn ~ $ cheese

(cheese:2955): cheese-WARNING **: Could not get parameters on device '/dev/video0': gstv4l2object.c(2444): gst_v4l2_object_set_format (): /GstCaGuvcviewmeraBin:camerabin/GstWrapperCameraBinSrc:camera_source/GstBin:bin0/GstV4l2Src:video_source:
system error: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Guvcview is still throwing the same error as before and does not work. However, I can get Camorama and Kamoso working without any issues but with warnings.

I thought I would continue posting in this thread rather than creating a new one for video issues with R5U870 driver.

...OK, I've just patched the r5u870 driver so it should now compile in Peppermint 4 (kernel 3.8 ), and uploaded it to my dropbox...

PCNetSpec, I've just had to go and patch this driver again... it seems that on the latest debian kernels (I'm using Mint) the driver needs to have the v4l2_dev pointer 'registered' with v4l2 prior to calling video_register_device.
This is done by calling v4l2_device_register.
Have written a blog post on this here.
The driver is there to download.

Bigger question... Have you committed your changes to any source repository yet?
Who is hosting this driver nowadays?

Thanks for your work to get us up to 3.8!
