The following tutorial is for Peppermint Six ONLY, it will NOT work in earlier versions of Peppermint

Now that Peppermint 6 has switched to the Nemo file manager (which also controls the desktop), it's easy to display any of the following icons on your desktop

Home
Computer
Network
Trash

Like the top 4 icons in this image

OK, let's do it....

First we need to install dconf-editor, so open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install dconf-editor
Now in the system menu fire up:-

menu > System Tools > dconf Editor

then in the left hand column of the dconf Editor window, navigate to the schema:-

org > nemo > desktop

now in the right hand column you'll have options to add ticks to the boxes

computer-icon-visible
home-icon-visible
network-icon-visible
trash-icon-visible

there's also an option for "volumes-visible" which will display icons for mounted volumes (CD/DVD's/SDcards/USB sticks/mounted network shares/etc.) on your desktop if you want.

Have fun, but be careful what you change in dconf-Editor  .. if you don't understand what a particular key does, probably best to leave it alone ;)
