Hi

I watched The Linux Help Guy you tube channel and wanted to see what he is waxing lyrical about so I have just installed Peppermint 6 alongside Win 8.1 with secure boot disabled - install worked like a charm and....  yes it dual boots   ;D  ;D  ;D . [[Edit 14/06 : Bummer - not as good as I first thought... need to manually change the bios to get windows to boot - not playing well with UEFI on Lenovo laptop]]

All good so far... just updated it via the update manager and we are good to go.  If this works as well as LHG says it does - I may well look to replace by BlackLab KDE (which works so well) on my main machine which dual boot Win 7. [[Edit 14/06: Peppermint is that good it's already on main machine]]

I have been trying to convert fully to Linux for a number of years now and it has been getting closer and closer to the finishing line...  Lets see what happens with Peppermint 6.

Either way - thank you for making it available to use.

Zebedee...

ps will insert a signature when I can remember commands to get system info up - lol - [[Edit 14/06: Signature Edited]]

First Impressions from a Linux Newb: (spoiler - Peppermint 6 ROCKS!!!) lets continue
In my opinion - too many Linux Guru's belittle distro's based on Ubuntu. "Oh that's easy" you hear them cry - "take the base and just add your own theme and voila you're done -easy"
They are so far from the truth it's laughable.
I have distro hopped like a maniac in the last 2 years or so and sure there are loads of Ubuntu spins but they are not all equal. They are getting better but they all have their quirks.
I am in the UK so when I pick UK and UK Keyboard, during install, I don't then expect to have to find where the settings are and change them when I boot into that new install.
This is 2015 - I want sound and you tube and music and films to play out of the box... I don't want to remember how to get Clementine working when I get that dreaded message about missing plugins... Groan (here we go again)
I am using a fairly good spec machine so expect things to open quickly and neatly with no lag or wait or having to ask the question "Did I just double click that or not?"
When you go to add a printer... it should work... Why would I want to spend hours on a forum trying to work it out.
I want Team Viewer and Dropbox and Skype and Wine to work... again without having to spend time on a forum asking questions.

I am pleased to say that with Peppermint 6 NONE of this happened.

PEPPERMINT 6 JUST WORKS!!!!!!

The team has put together a great product and for that I am grateful.  Thank You very much.

Welcome aboard.   :D

We've been discussing The Linux Help Guy and his wonderful Peppermint 6 reviews on the board here.  It's great to know he's spreading the word in such a positive way.  :)

I hear you on the trying to switch to Linux full time bit.  I've been at it for close to six years now.  I finally stopped even buying software that won't work in Linux last year, which is helpful.  However, I still have to find an alternative for one program before I can ditch Windows entirely.

Lightwave 3D.  I'm a hobby CG artist.  I can't get that stupid program to work with WINE in any Linux OS because it has a hardware lock (USB dongle.)  I even tried a demo of the latest version, which doesn't use that, and it still won't work right.  I've been trying to talk myself into switching to Blender or something else that runs Linux native, but it's hard to switch software like that because each program does things entirely differently.  Plus, every time I try Blender, I find something I don't like.   >:(

I hear that... changing up on something you have invested a lot of time in is a nightmare.

Thankfully mine is not so black n white... I could and should just change but... there is something  not 100% right...  maybe it because I am not 100% Linux and have to rely on reading files from NTFS drives... I have a stupid number of USB externals and to move stuff around so I can convert and then copy them back is... well... Dog gone it - its too painful to contemplate.  Also nothing compares to Search Everything for finding stuff.

Still... we shall see with Peppermint...  So far so good  ;D

I hear you there.  I have thousands of files, including hundreds of gigabytes of Star Trek fan films on an NTSB partition.  Copying the files, changing the partition to something else and then copying them back would be a nightmare.  But, maybe if I can get that other issue worked out, I'll do just that.  Right now, I'm working on a favor for a friend in Lightwave but, once that's done, I plan to try messing around in Blender again.  Maybe 3rd time will be a charm.   :D

I still have to find an alternative for one program before I can ditch Windows entirely.

Sadly, I have a similar situation with my Netgear PS 110 wired print server.

AFAIK, there is no way to flash, update, or even change the settings without using a proprietary winders XP utility.

That's the only reason I leave a copy of winders lingering around...

When I do any of the aforementioned activities, I physically remove the print server from my system, and use my Eee PC to 'program' it -- sitting at my kitchen table, via a cross-over cable.

I'm totally paranoid of winders infecting my LAN.  LoL   :D

It's an all too familiar story, a lot of people have that one Windows program they just can't live without.
