I think one is suppose to be boot and the other one is boot.  I use the install besides Windows 7 option the first time and had this error.  I reinstall it using the manual option and got the same thing.  Now I think about it... /boot was suppose to be ext 3 wasn't it?

Not necessarily .. /boot can be ext4

But

you manually set up create /boot and / partitions and choose the mount points during installation ?

it might be easier to just delete both of those 2 ext4 partitions (leaving unpartitioned space) from the LiveCD .. then reinstall Peppermint choosing to install to the "free space" (ie. without manually setting the partitions) .. there's no benefit that I can see to having a separate boot partition.

If you don't want to do that, you're going to have to tell me which of sda5 and sda6 is /boot and which is /

Ok, I am going to delete all the partitions and leave it as unallocated space using gparted.  Then, I will reinstall PM6 and use the "install besides Windows" option and not manually allocate space.

I will update after that is done.

Yep, same error. I was pretty sure that's how I tried to install PM6 the first time.   :-\

Error:

BusyBox v1.21.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.21.0-1ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

If i use Cntl+alt+del I would get the same error message i posted before.

I booted using the live USB and ran the two commands you asked me to post before:

So what does the error say now ?

You say windows boots perfectly .. is this via GRUB ?

Yes, Grub does pull up. 2.02~beta I think.  I can select win7 and boot successfully.  Selecting PM6 gives me the same error as before

Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
 - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
  - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
  - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
 - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

That's what I'm trying to discover .. I need the UUID from the error NOW.

I'm beginning to think this may be a disk error .. though I suppose it could be a corrupt installation media

refers to 304f9334-ff85-4621-b726-f336fe96e33f

so the full error msg now reads:

Well it's getting the UUID of the partition correct  :-\

try booting the LiveCD, then starting Gparted, right-clicking sdb5 (or whatever the ext4 partition is) and then select CHECK

Did that report any problems ?

As a *possible* workaround - If Windows boots correctly, I wonder what would happen if you used EasyBCD to boot the Linux partition

[EDIT]

I'm a bit bothered that the hard drive is listed as sdb .. it would normally be listed as sda

Can you boot to the LiveCD, then open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo mount /dev/sdb5 /mnt
then
Code: [Select]
gedit /mnt/boot/grub/grub.cfg
and post the contents here

Used the bootable USB and used Gparted to check /dev/sdb5 which is the PM6 partition.  No errors.  I did noticed that in Gparted, it sees the USB boot drive as sda1 and the hard drive as sdb.

here is the output from grub.cfg

At the GRUB menu, does the "Peppermint GNU/Linux,採用 Linux 3.16.0-46-generic" entry boot properly (it's probably in a submenu)

  • Peppermint version(s): PM6
That is one of the selections.  Here are the 4 available in the submenu

Peppermint GNU/Linux, Linux 3.16.0-62-generic
Peppermint GNU/Linux, Linux 3.16.0-62-generic (recovery mode)
Peppermint GNU/Linux, Linux 3.16.0-46-generic
Peppermint GNU/Linux, Linux 3.16.0-46-generic (recovery mode)

[UPDATE]

So I thought I just select 3.16.0-46-generic and see what happens.  I was able to boot into PM6.  I did all the updates apt-get (update, upgrade, dist-upgrade), saw a few error messages during the upgrade (broken installation, error for missing folders, ect) but all three was completed successfully.  Gave it a restart and this time it automatically boot in PM6.  Installed the wireless driver and it seems to be working now.  So did PM6 fixed itself?   :-\   Awesome  :o
