When you say disk .. do you mean LiveCD or LiveUSB stick ?
(and will you be creating it under Peppermint 5 or Windows ?)

and what do you mean by "backing up my peppermint 5 system" ? .. just user files, or the whole drive ?
(and backing it up to what ?)

hi! ok yes i would be reinstalling over peppermint 5 (screw windows).
I would like to back up my OS supposedly this can be done this way incase six doesn't
run as smoothly as 5 does i can go back to it. im not sure how thats done. i dont need the actual files like pics/songs etc
because their on an HD but like my whole system of apps and themes etc i have set up.

also i would be doing this via a CDr i just need to find my blank discs (this is how i did it with peppermint 5 last year)
but a friend pretty much did it all for me so im not sure exactly how it did it and at the time he did it on top of windows 7
but now im running peppermint 5 as of last summer. any help is appreciated really would like to get six set up today.

OK, backing up your whole setup is only going to be possible with something like a Clonezilla or Redo Backup & Recovery LiveCD

Burning to a CD/DVD .. which software have you got installed for this ?

has your PC got a CD/DVD burner ?

Can your PC boot from USB sticks ?
can you post the output from:

OK, to burn the Peppermint 6 ISO image to disk, the easiest option would probably be to install xfburn then use that to burn the image.

That said as your PC has a core 2 duo it's highly likely you can boot from a USB stick but you'll probably need to select the USB stick as the device to boot when you first turn on your PC.

Can you try this
Shut down your PC
Turn ON your PC
Immediately after turning on your PC, keep hitting the F12 key
If you get to the boot device selection screen, select your HDD and hit enter to boot.

I just want to know if F12 get you to a screen where you can choose the boot device ?

can you also confirm you have a 1GB or larger USB stick ?

I also installed clonezilla but unsure how to use it.
