The only way I can connect to the Internet is wireless. I'm assuming I can't do an update or upgrade without being connected to the internet?

No you can't....

Are you still using Peppermint 5 32bit ?

what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
uname -a

If you are still using Peppermint 5 32bit, at what point do the following instructions fail

Create a folder on your Peppermint 5 32bit  desktop called offline_firmware-b43-installer

download theses 2 files on another PC (or in Mint):
http://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter/b43-fwcutter_018-2_i386.deb
and
http://www.lwfinger.com/b43-firmware/broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2
and place them in the folder you just created on your desktop called offline_firmware-b43-installer

now open a terminal and run these commands in sequence:
Code: [Select]
cd /lib/firmware
then
Code: [Select]
if test -d b43; then echo "Deleting old b43 firmware directory...";  sudo rm -rf b43; fi
(if prompted, enter your password then hit enter again)
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/Desktop/offline_firmware-b43-installer
then
Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg -i b43-fwcutter_018-2_i386.deb
then
Code: [Select]
tar xvjf broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2
then
Code: [Select]
cd ~/Desktop/offline_firmware-b43-installer/broadcom-wl-5.100.138/linux
then
Code: [Select]
sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta.o
then
Code: [Select]
sudo chmod 755 /lib/firmware/b43
then REBOOT

Now check if wireless is working ?

Should have mentioned I can't connect to the internet if I don't have my wireless working. So I'm assuming I have no way to do the updates you suggest.

I noticed also during my newest install something about deleting fwcutter. If that makes a difference.

Unless you can download those 2 files and get them onto your PC somehow there is no way to progress.

Can't you download them on another PC and transfer them to the Peppermint PC via a USB stick ?

Hello, thanks for the reply. I do have a working installation of Linux Mint on another partition. I'll download the files and follow your instructions and see what happens. A couple things if it helps, my new install of Peppermint is from the same ISO file I used in my original install and I didn't use gparted to reformat the partiton I used for Peppermint. Just did everything from the install.

Finally success! The computer gods have smiled down on me. Followed your instructions above and all went well. Thanks so much for your time and help. I'm not even sure what I did differently this time but I can now connect to my wireless internet. I'll do my best to not mess up my installation this time.
