That's what I was asking .. is the /home partition new, or does it contain stuff from a previous Linux installation ?

And can we have a recap .. are you at the position where you can log on, but all you can see is the wallpaper ?

What happens if you drop to a console with Ctrl+Alt+F3, log on in text mode, then run:
Code: [Select]
sudo service lightdm restart
?
WARNING: You are logged into reality as 'root' .. logging in as 'insane' is the only safe option.

No, I didn't format the /home partition. I keep it with my personal stuff so I can change OS without losind them. So, yes, it keeps information from previous Linux installation.

As a guest user, I can log in and use the computer just fine. When I log in with my user, all I see is the wallpaper and no menu panel.

I did this when I was logged in with my user. It restarted but just the same (wallpaper, but no menu panel)

If you kept your home folder from a previous Linux distro, half your config files will be wrong because they're hidden in your home folder.

Create a new user from the command line .. then copy your user files from the old user.

I tried creating a new user but it didn't work, still the same bug. So, I saved my files, formatted the whole disk and did a clean installation. Everything's working just fine :) Than you all for your help (and patience...). PM5 looks great!
