Any way to do an easy lock screen? (SOLVED)
« on: April 01, 2015, 10:54:45 am »
Hi!

I was just wondering if there's a way to make a quick "lock screen" shortcut in Peppermint.  Something a touch faster than just opening the logout screen and then picking lock screen.

I see the logout screen has a lock screen option.  Is there a command line option for that, so that I can set a keyboard shortcut for that?  I tried $ peppermint-logout --help, but all I got out of that was "quit" on the terminal.

And I did try to use the "lock screen" option from the logout menu.  Nothing happened at all.  Could I have accidentally disable that by messing about with Light Locker or the power settings?

Thanks in advance if anyone can tell me how to make a "Lock Screen" keyboard shortcut.

what does
Code: [Select]
dm-tool lockdo?

If that works, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/peppermint-screenlock.desktopand make it read
Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=ScreenLock
Comment=Lock your screen
Icon=system-lock-screen
Exec=dm-tool lock
NoDisplay=false
Categories=System;Settings;
SAVE the file.

You should now have a menu item at
menu > System Tools > ScreenLock

PCNetSpec:

That worked just fine!

Although, when I typed in
Code: [Select]
dm-tool lockMy screen went blank and the speakers cut out completely
When I regained conciousness (just kidding!)
then, when I pressed a key, the computer was indeed in screen-lock mode.

I made a copy of that desktop/menu icon for screen-lock and saved it.  It's where it should be.

I then made a keyboard shortcut (Super-L) for it, which is my preference for that.

Thanks for the help!
 :)

Thanks for pointing that out.  I just plain forgot mark it solved.

Maybe short term memory problems.
Not only that, but my short term memory might not be quite right.
I forgot if I'm having short term memory problems.

You need to mark the FIRST posting in the topic solved not the last one, otherwise it doesn't display as (SOLVED) in the forum menus ;)

I've done this one for you :)
