A very nice Peppermint story on the Going Linux Podcast
« on: March 07, 2015, 08:53:50 am »
Hi all, I hope everyone is having a great weekend  :).  I have just been listening to the superb Going Linux Podcast: Going Linux Podcast.  It's a very interesting listener feedback episode.  Bob from Delray Beach in Florida has written in with a wonderful Peppermint story.  Bob is a genuine Cross-platform Geek.  He has written in to tell Larry Bushey about one of the charities he volunteers his time to, Family Promise: www.homelessshelterdirectory.org.  This is a project to help homeless people get back on their feet.  The guest computers in the centre all run Peppermint Five.  You can hear the story here starting at, 26:20: Going Linux Episode 270: Listener Feedback.

This just goes to show how Peppermint is doing far more than just providing an viable alternative to Windows  It is actually reaching out and helping very needy people get on with their lives.  This is fantastic and heart warming news  ;).  A big Pepperminty thank you goes out to Bob from Delray Beach, Florida.  I'm sure everyone here will join me in wishing him great success with the very worthwhile project he's involved in - thank you Bob, you are a genuine Super Star  ;)!!

That's a brilliant story, ..it's great to see someone leverage Peppermint for such a noble cause.

I'm sure the rest of Team Peppermint  would join me in saying "thank you Bob from Delray Beach, we're proud and honoured you chose Peppermint" :)

@rjm65

The guy didn't make the podcast himself...

Think of it like an internet radio show, where Bob from Delray Beach wrote them a letter explaining that he uses Peppermint 5 for computers supplied by the charities he works/volunteers for and explaining that it was a perfect fit for that usage .. the letter was then read out on the podcast (radio show kinda thing) ;)

Listen to it, you'll get the picture .. OK probably not the cleverest choice of phrase  :D

podcasts are great. its simple and sometimes its nice to listen to people talk remember talk radio?
just because we have youtube doesn't mean people don't want to listen to a podcast/radioshow
i could listen to the marc maron wtf podcasts all day long while surfing the net and drinking an ice cup of coffee.
than again i grew up listening to talk radio shows all through out hs i would listen to howard stern's radio show
until i finished college and he went off the radio on regular radio.

Yeah, but listen to episode 271 (March 20): a scathing denouncement of PeppermintOS and, I think, it's developers.
Maybe they just want to be "fair and balanced."  Ha!   :D

Yeah, I listened to that one too.  One bad review amongst the plethora of glowing ones, pretty much renders it meaningless.  It reflects more on the poor testing skills of the reviewer rather than the short comings of the OS.  The test machines he was using should have had Peppermint flying and anyone with similar setups would have had no issues.  I would suggest he went in wanting to give Peppermint a poor review.  I know he likes distro bulging at the seams with pre-installed software and eye candy.  Lets face it from our own experiences with Peppermint, we know he was talking BS  ;).
