Advice on Toshiba NB200 laptop
« on: February 27, 2015, 06:23:24 pm »
Hi all, how's it going?  I'm looking into buying a new/2nd hand laptop.  Peppermint Six is just around the corner.  I would like to install it to a netbook style computer.  I've found a Toshiba NB200 with a 10" screen in a pawnbroker's shop in Uden, N Brabrant.  It's going for a snap at 50.  It's looking in good shape too.  I've had a search for reviews etc and it seems a nice little laptop. Toshiba-NB200-10Z---10-1in-Netbook-review.  I'm wondering if anyone has used one of these beasts as a Linux machine?  If anyone has, could you let me know how it performs?  Many thanks  ;).

ALPS Glidepoint touchpad *might* cause issues, then again it might not.

other than that I can see no problems .. why not ask them if you can boot a LiveUSB

I've run quite a few netbooks of similar specs and they run quite well for what they're intended for .. they're never going to be gaming machines though ;)

Yeah, I wish I could do that.  I saw the machine advertised in our version of ebay, Marktplaats, Toshiba NB200 laptop on Marktplaats.  The pawnbroker is unfortunately located at the other side of the country  :(.  I just want it for general internet stuff and watching Netflix etc. I'll give them a call in the morning and see if it is still for sale - cheers  ;).

Peppermint Six is just around the corner.
Oh, is it?! I missed that announcement.  :o

Hmm. I tend to have root and home folder in the same partition. I think that means then when it comes to upgrading to PM6 I need to back-up home folder? Sorry, appreciate that's off-topic  ::)

Generally speaking, I don't find partitioning strategy/documentation all that clear.  :-\

There's no announcement yet.  New Peppermint releases traditionally occur annually between May and June though.  So the countdown clock is ticking  :D.
