A Linux I actually like.
« on: February 21, 2015, 04:19:06 am »
After years of concluding that Linux was too beardy and incomplete, I was strongarmed by a friend into trying Peppermint.

I like it. Fast and works well (without driver issues !!) on the first two machines I tried. Failed on one with an Intel Mobile CPU (issue with CPU maximum memory addressing or something).

It's not going to replace Windows yet for me, but is now on my internet browsing machine of choice. Here's hoping this really is the future, this time.

After years of concluding that Linux was too beardy and incomplete [...]

Welcome aboard!  Interesting comment, above...   :)

The 'completeness', if you will, of Peppermint Two is what originally attracted me to Peppermint et al.

I've used many Linux distributions over the years, as well as other Unix offshoots such as OpenSolaris, and FreeBSD.

No matter which OS I ran, after a fresh install, I had to spent days removing packages that I didn't want, and installing the ones I did.

When I tried Peppermint for the first time, I was shocked to discover all the proggies I  run were pre-installed -- with none of the cruft I normally remove.

Have fun!

Thank you for all your kind replies. I would add that Peppermint OS updates are the least intrusive I've encountered. Such a contrast with Windows.
