sound... again... [mysteriously reSOLVED]
« on: February 04, 2015, 01:19:21 pm »
here we go again, the sound/no sound merry go round....  Only have sound in Seamonkey as i wake up this morning... no sound in Chromium, Midori nor Qupzilla.... all working fine yesterday, no updates done by me...  just went to try to:
Code: [Select]
spence@hpG6 ~ $ sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
but the terminal returned to prompt with no activity...
  :'(

just ran today's update; only thing updated was...
Code: [Select]
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
  file libmagic1 tzdata unzip
now to reboot and test...

EDIT: reboot restored sound to Chromium and Midori, but not Qupzilla... while killing sound in Seamonkey....

is it just in flashplayer where the sound isn't working ?

Try
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
and
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-installer
again .. then close ALL web browsers and reopen to test.

if you're still having problems, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep flash

none of this works anymore... i have no sound in any browser...

is it just in flashplayer where the sound isn't working ?

Try
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
and
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-installer
again .. then close ALL web browsers and reopen to test.

if you're still having problems, post the output from:
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep flash

so here's the output:
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l | grep flash
ii  flashplugin-installer                       11.2.202.442ubuntu0.14.04.1           amd64        Adobe Flash Player plugin installer
ii  pepperflashplugin-nonfree                   1.3ubuntu1                            amd64        Pepper Flash Player - browser plugin

also:
Code: [Select]
spence@hpG6 ~ $ sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
[sudo] password for spence:

well, only had to restart the laptop half a dozen times before the sound returned in Chromium... will check back in abut the others... bleaaaaaaggghhhh

EDIT so much for chromium working well, shut everything down after last post and walked away for a while... rebooted to find sound in Seamonkey, while Chromium throws out constant Pages Unresponsive errors along with offers to kill the flash plugin  and no sound... guess it'll be Seamonkey for a while...  :-\

try:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
again .. do you still get the error ?

If you still get the error, what's the output from:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --status

as of my last post yesterday, i had sound in Chromium... as of today I have no sound, nor any error messages offering to stop/kill the flash plugin... no updates run today... i'm utterly and completely frustrated...

i ran
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
half a dozen times yesterday alone...

so here's the output from

Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --status
Flash Player version installed on this system  : 16.0.0.305
Flash Player version available on upstream site: 16.0.0.305

Yes, spence, this is Peppermint forum's best-kept secret:  PCNetSpec is Peppermint forum's very own wizard! ;)

Here's more supporting evidence to back up this claim:

Looks like Google may have changed their key .. what happens if add the key again:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 7FAC5991
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
?

just so frustrating... perhaps its my 2011 hp laptop? played three videos with no problem, then the fourth had no sound in Chromium... but the video played in Seamonkey... i have deleted and purged Midori and Qupzilla out of pure frustration and lack of time... so this terminal output reference to qupzilla confuses me...

Code: [Select]
 sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 7FAC5991
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --homedir /tmp/tmp.S8rAD1uxXy --no-auto-check-trustdb --trust-model always --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/nowrep-qupzilla.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv 7FAC5991
gpg: requesting key 7FAC5991 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 7FAC5991: public key "Google, Inc. Linux Package Signing Key <linux-packages-keymaster@google.com>" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg:               imported: 1

but after copying and pasting the three commands i still come up with:

Code: [Select]
spence@hpG6 ~ $ sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --installERROR: failed to retrieve status information from google : W: GPG error: http://dl.google.com stable Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG A040830F7FAC5991 Google, Inc. I'd just keep trying spence .. I'm having the same problem sometimes, and at other times it connects and works, so it must be something to do with the Google repository being a bit flaky at the moment.

So just keep running:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --install
until it works ... so far for I've never had to run it more than twice before it works

[hr

The qupzilla thing is nothing to worry about .. it's just showing that you still have the qupzilla gpg key on your system .. not a problem.
