Chromium -- Fixed or Not
« on: January 30, 2015, 11:24:32 am »
Here's an interesting development...   8)

I've been on the trot for 3 weeks.  Just got home a couple of days ago and have been catching up on various projects.

Yesterday, I upgraded Ubu 15.04 -- 600+ upgrades and additions.  One of them was the Chromium browser.

Surprisingly,  after months of constantly 'snapping', Chromium is working like a champ.  Hello?!?!?

Here's a screenie...

You might note, I'm streaming music from my SoundCloud account, surfing the Google Web Store, and playing videos on my YouTube channel.

Any one of these sites would have 'snapped' Chromium all by itself.  Running them all at the same has been impossible for the past several months.

I have no idea what they did to accomplish this, and there are too many updates to backtrace the changes, but it is encouraging, to say the least.

Just thought I would offer this glimmer of hope.  Maybe they're onto something...

Peppermint currently has Chromium 39 IIRC ... maybe trying Chromium 41 (dev build) would help ?

I think it was yesterday that Google updated Chrome to Version 40.0.2214.94 (64-bit).  As long as I have the hardware acceleration turned off, it runs like a champ.  My only grizzle with it is, it still doesn't update the favicons in the SSBs correctly.  It also appears to be running - dare I say it, "snappier"  ;).
Backup! Backup! Backup! If you're missing any of these -  you ain't Backed Up!

Pun aside, I can confirm that.  This is performing like the Chromium of yesteryear!   :)

Chrome yeah, but isn't Chromium still on 39 (other than in the dev channel) ?

I dunno.  Sounds about right.  I don't run 'stable' anything...

I'm NOT going to update this Ubu dev branch for awhile.  It's working too good right now.

I went over to Google and added the APIs to my project, just in case I want to burn the tokens into a build.

In the meantime, I'll play around with this release for a few days.

If nothing changes in Chromium, I'll install it P5 and see how it works.  ;)

Finally 'snapped' on me.

Oh, well.  Close, but no cigar...   8)
