(Solved) Add a home Directory?
« on: January 23, 2015, 05:27:45 pm »
Hi all,

I installed Peppermint OS 5 a while back and apparently did not add my previous distro's home directory as my Pep OS's Home directory. I was just wondering there is a way to manually add the previous home directory as the peppermint OS Home Directory?

If so I would love to know!!

Thanks,
_tuter

Theoretically if they were both Ubuntu based, single user system the UUID for the accounts from both distros will be the same (1000) so you could just :-

a) boot a LiveCD/LiveUSB

b) rename your current home folder

c) copy your old home folder to /home

d) rename it to the current username.

But I personally wouldn't  .. the hidden config files from another distro (or missing Peppermint ones) can, and probably will cause you all sorts of problems.
For sure the configs for things like the Peppermint panels, and more importantly the Peppermint Control Center will be missing so things like your keyboard shortcuts and settings will be screwed.

If I were you I'd just copy the user files across to the Current /home/<username> folder .. and possibly the web browser and email config directories.

Thanks pcnetspec! But I think I'll probably just save me the hassle and reinstall after backing up all of my important data. Lol
