when i first moved from mac (when i sold it) i bought this laptop with windows 7 on it.
i hated it, i tried peppermint 5 at first loved it and a friend convinced me to try elementary os luna
i installed it for about 5 hours and did not like it one bit and went right back to peppermint.

I don't know what all the fuss is about elementary i think the design is ok looking but
its not a very user friendly system at all. I found peppermint to be much more easy to
use/customize and set up and comes with very handy tools.

A Google+ community is NOT a forum ;)

In fact have you ever tried to give assistance via social media sites (Facebook, Google+, etc.) .. the layout makes it REALLY difficult (no code boxes or highlighting etc.) .. and (like IRC) they're pretty useless as a searchable solution repository, so looking for previous solutions is impossible.

I'm just surprised a distro as well known and large as Elementary don't have a proper forum .. seriously, I wouldn't even consider using an OS without checking out their support channels, the most important of which is always going to be a forum.

Peppermint has Facebook and Google+ pages, and community page .. but If anyone ever asks for support there I just point them here.

they can't be too well known, I never heard of them, or even tried it when i was distro hopping thru 50 distros, and searching sourceforge for ubuntu based distros, they never even came up in a search...  LOL   :o

Erm, they're #9 on Distrowatch .. above distros like Slackware, Redhat, Gentoo, Mandriva, Zorin, PCLinuxOS, Lubuntu, Deepin, Manjaro, Xubunntu, Kubuntu, Knoppix, etc.  :-\

elementary OS actually becomes quite awesome once you install elementary tweaks
the elementary OS team expects you to use most of the preinstalled software/apps that they provide, their goal is more towards aesthetics, but I do agree they are quite harsh on not letting customization right out of the box........
elementary has a quite active sub-reddit

You can check some of my screenshots of my current elementary OS setup here  ;D

but I may sound a bit egoistic here, but aren't we moving a bit out topic, lol  :P

Still not a forum though is it ?

Still suffers the layout and posting issues

and why is it hidden .. how are users meant to find that ?

is it even official ? .. and if so, why isn't it linked from their support page ?

it may be number 9 on distrowatch but it never came up on a search with them when I was looking for a good distro...  However pclinuxos did come up and so did antix  along with 48 others...  Weird like i said before never heard of it, and after seeing screenshots of it I would never try it anyway, don't like bars on top and side, has to be on the bottom for me, so it looks and feels like windows the best os ever made...   LOL    :o

my issue with elementary was its actual file manager and set up.
i had a lot of issues with it. I think peppermint is a much stronger distro
much more solid and user friendly. I feel spoiled honestly and don't
have any reason to use any other operating system. People can say
elementary looks great but peppermint is so easy to customize
you have user friendly system along with being able to set it up exactly
as you would want too. works for me.
