1.98 geeze thats old. I wonder if it can handle peppermint 5, can you do the inxi -F like pcnetspec asked for earlier, and copy the info to a text file if need be, and put it on your usb stick, and then post info here from your windows machine...

I need you to run:
inxi -F

then look (near thre top) for something like
Distro: Pepeprmint Five
or similar.

Ifr you can't find it .. run:
uname -r
and post the output back here

or the output from:
inxi -S

It says :
Kernal 2.6.32-24-generic i686 (32bit) Distro Peppermint
cpu single core Intel etc cahce 512 kb etc ...

No way of selecting the text and copy and paste ??? Nor any way of saving the file or finding a text editor ! :( So no chance of copying to drive ... not without help :) anyway!

Ran inxi -f and it brought back up the cpu Intel celeron M etc and a whole load of letters ! :)

can you take a picture of the screen after running inxi -F and post it somewhere where we can see like imgur.com?

Forget the inxi -F output for now... I already have what I need...

OK, you're on a VERY early version of Peppermint .. either Peppermint One or Peppermint ICE or Peppermint Two

You really need to remove that and switch to Peppermint Three or Five.

But for now, do you want to get the wireless working ? .. and do you know your wireless key ?

@rjm65
I know the specs .. I was only trying to figure out the Peppermint version to see if it's worth going any further, or if it needs an upgrade.

kernel 2.6 was only used up until Peppermint 3 .. so whatever version it's running IS out of support and needs replacing.

That doesn't mean she can't have a look around the current version though .. until we get round to reinstalling

(all of which are "end of life")

(don't publish your wireless key .. I just wanna know if you knw it or not)

Peppermint 5 WILL run on that netbook, but Peppermint 3 will probably be slightly quicker .. your call.
Peppermint 3 is supported till 2017
Peppermint 5 is supported till 2019

Anyway, wireless...

If you look bottom right of screen by the clock, you should see some icons .. one of them should be the NetworkManager.

If you normal left-click the NetworkManger Icon, you should see a list of detected wireless networks.

Click on YOUR network, and it should prompt you for "Authentication" .. this box wants your PEPPERMINT password, so enter it and click OK.

the next box will prompt for your WIRELESS key .. enter it and click OK.

Did it connect ?
