Hi peppermintfudge.  I see that the output you returned is very long.  In future, could you please encapsulate long outputs with the Sp Spoiler
function.  This is located just above the crying  :'( emoticon.  It makes it much easier for people to read and keeps things neat and tidy.  This time, I've done this for you.  Thanks in advance ;).

OK, that's weird .. let's uninstall wicd and see if networkmanager shows up in the system tray:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge wicd-gtk python-wicd wicd-daemonthen
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge wicdnow reboot
did networkmanager display an icon in the system tray ?

if not, try running:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall network-manager network-manager-gnomethen rebooting .. how about now ?
