I'm installing Peppermint on low specs PCs (In Argentina, like always, there are economic problems that difficults hardware update), first I run Peppermint in Live form, trying to find if all the hardware will be recognized.
I run PeppermintOS 4 on Intel Celeron, 256MB RAM, and every thing is OK, except that my "Realtek RTL8185 54M Wireless LAN" Adapter is not recognized.
Any tips?
Obviously, I searched in Google, but all post I finded are 5 years, or more, old; I don't know if they are recomendable considering all the kernel updates in that time.

It's certainly an old piece of hardware you have there. Hopefully we can work out some sort of solution.

My first thought is to grab the Windows driver for it and try to install it using a program called "ndisgtk". You can install ndisgtk from the Software Center or via any other method if you don't have it installed already. I think it's worth a shot.

Hi tutucavoraz, and welcome to the new forum :)

Can you open a terminal and post the output from running these 2 commands:
Code: [Select]
lsusb
and
Code: [Select]
lspci -vnn | grep -i net

Theoretically the rtl8180 driver should work for that adapter.

What is the output from:
Code: [Select]
uname -a
and is there any output from:
Code: [Select]
modinfo rtl8180 | grep 8185
and
Code: [Select]
lsmod | grep rtl

OMG!!! Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! All my big bad!!! :-[ :-[ :'(
The machine low specs doesn't allow me to see the connection manager icon (only a blank space).
I realized about that when I ran the commands that PCNetSpec asked.

Output:
peppermint@peppermint ~ $ uname -a
Linux peppermint 3.8.0-33-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 23 17:26:34 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux
peppermint@peppermint ~ $ modinfo rtl8180 | grep 8185
description:    RTL8180 / RTL8185 PCI wireless driver
alias:          pci:v000010ECd00008185sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
peppermint@peppermint ~ $ lsmod | grep rtl
rtl8180                35544  0
mac80211              526519  1 rtl8180
cfg80211              436243  2 mac80211,rtl8180
eeprom_93cx6           13168  1 rtl8180

After that, I thought: "What if I right-click on that blank space" and... voilą! There it was, all the wireless names list waiting for me...

Thank a lot, for the fast response and patience.
Iwill add SOLVED to the title... And maybe, this post, must be removed, I don't know...

BTW, rjm65, i posted to both forums, i may not... sorry for that too... and thanks...

Nah, leave it up.  Who knows if someone else will run into the same kind of thing or may even be struggling with it now?
No problem.
