That made no difference at all.  I've increased to the delay to 60 secs and that also makes no difference  :(.

OK, undo that.

Does nm-applet start if you run it from the command line:
Code: [Select]
nohup nm-applet

My system still updates fine, just so you know that not all Peppermint users are having this problem.

Bingo!  It was my SpiderOak autostart being its usual resource hog at startup.  I increased the "sleep" time to 5mins to get it well out of the way.  Everything is now loading in the panel and working as it should  ;).

"The information about available software is out-of-date

To install software and updates from newly added or changed sources, you have to reload the information about available software.

You need a working internet connection to continue." something is up.

I'm reporting in with some good news.

This is the first day for me, since we began discussing updating problems, that the updater on this computer displayed itself in the Peppermint's lower panel as having updates.  Therefore, the updater for Peppermint 5 appears to working again on this C-70 Toshiba laptop!

They must be fixing some things over there at Ubuntu.  :)

[T]here are a lot of people happily running Peppermint ICE which hasn't been receiving ANY updates for a while now .. and I personally would STILL consider that MUCH more secure than any version of Windows with up-to-date AV/Anti-malware ;)
