We have 2 options here

a) attempt to uninstall/reinstall chromium
or
b) Install Firefox

I suppose this could also be a graphics driver issue, but we'll get to that if necessary.

To uninstall/reinstall chromium -

Open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge chromium
then
Code: [Select]
rm -v ~/.config/chromium
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install --reinstall chromium ice

To install the Firefox web browser:

run:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install firefox

Let us know if you have any other graphics glitches.

Also, should reinstalling Chromium not suffice, please provide a screenshot of the anomaly so that we can get a better idea of what we're looking at.

totally forgot about this.

Still having the problems with the black bar that covers the address bar.
When I downloaded firefox the problem went away.
However, I am trying to stick with Chromium because firefox sometimes gives difficulties with Google Apps.

So is there a way that we could try to resolve this issue.

thank you

As Marks suggests it could be a graphics issue, could you open the terminal and post the output of

Code: [Select]
lshw -c display

Try this...

In Chromium, go to
chrome://settings

Under the "Appearance" heading .. click the "Use Classic theme" button.

did that remove the black bar ?

Just for giggles, you might try this...

In Chromium, go to
chrome://settings

Under the "Users" heading .. click the "Add new user..." button.

Does the black bar still appear for the new user?

What happens if you take the tick out of "Enable display compositing" in

menu > Preferences > Window Manager Tweaks > Compositor (tab)

Taking a screenshot .. either

a) just hit the "PrtSc" key .. you'll then find the screenshot in your home folder.

or

b) go to menu > Accessories > Screenshot
