[SOLVED] Keyboard not recognised
« on: September 27, 2014, 03:33:26 pm »
Hello all, after having peppermint3 and 4 I decided to install 5, strangely while installation the keyboard is not recognised so I can not go further installing it. It is a LG R500 laptop.
Strangely I also lost my account in the forum here so I had to register again.

Have you got an external keyboard you can use for the installation ?

Then we can look into adding the initramsf modules to the installed OS

Haven't a clue until you try one ;)

and initramfs is the initial image that gets loaded into RAM to initialise/load the rest of the OS .. initramfs-tools should already be installed .. you just need to edit a file, then generate a new initramfs file .. We'll get round to trying that if/when you confirm you're able to run the LiveCD/LiveUSB with an external USB keyboard.

OK, if you've already installed Peppermint 5 .. boot using your external keyboard, open a terminal and run:
Code: [Select]
sudo gedit /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
when a file with some stuff already in it opens, add these 4 NEW lines at the bottom
Code: [Select]
hid
usbhid
hid_generic
ohci_pci
SAVE the file, and close gedit.

Back in the terminal, run:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-initramfs -u
when that command finishes and leaves you back at an $ prompt .. REBOOT and test your internal keyboard.

To which kernel version ?

Have you tried running a full system update and seeing if that makes any difference ? .. with an active internet connection (wired or wireless) open a terminal and run these commands in sequence:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get upgrade
then
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
then REBOOT
