[Topic Split to New Topic]

[The OP is experiencing an Issue Installing from a USB Stick]

I am having this same problem.

I am trying to install it to a new 16GB partition ext3 on a 32GB USB. The other partition is FAT32 for storage.
I am booting off another USB card using unetbootin into Peppermint5 (using now).

I have 16GB of RAM
I do have a CDROM and I have not tried to turn it off via BIOS (because I don't understand why its trying to unmount the CDROM in the firstplace?!)
I did see another thread mention something about Timezone, because this is usually the screen this pop up error displays. The post said something about to check the BIOS timezone, and about how the user with the problem noticed that the taskbar showed incorrect time.

Hi niknoki, Welcome to the Peppermint Forum  8).  I have split your reply and made it a separate topic as it does not contribute to the resolution of the original question.  In future, when you have a new issue. please start a new topic.  This maintains continuity in the topic line.  Importantly, it makes it much easier for future users to search for an answer to an issue.  Many thanks  ;).

What's the problem exactly ?

the LiveUSB won't boot ? .. what does it do ?
or
it will boot to the LiveUSB but won't install ? .. are any errors shown ?

[EDIT]

Is this the topic it was split from?
http://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,1032.0.html

[EDIT2]

Which OS are you creating the LiveUSB under ?

and is persistence important ?

The Peppermint 5 ISO image is an isohybrid image, so can be directly wrritten to a USB stick with "dd" under Linux or using "Win32DiskImager" in Windows
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/

it won't give you persistence, but I've found it's the most reliable method of creating an installation media that "just works" :)

Be aware -
a) The USB stick will be completely erased
and
b) once done with the LiveUSB you'll need something like the "HP USB format tool" to turn it  back into a "normal" USB stick (under Windows) or Gparted/Disks (under Peppermint)

If you want instructions, please let us know if you're creating the LiveUSB under Windows or Linux

[EDIT3]

After reading your posting again I'm now wondering if this is NOT a problem booting a "LiveUSB" ?
More a problem in doing a "normal" install of Peppermint to another USB stick ?

if so, where does the
Quote
(initramfs) stdin: not a typewriter
mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: invalid argument
can not mount /dev/loop0 (/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs
come into it ?
that's a problem with a "Live" installation.

I'm just getting more and more confused here  :-\ .. probably a sign of my age :) .. can we start again with a full explanation of the issue and when it occurs (or at least a little clarification)

Hello,
Could you please type a sample of the dd command to show us how to create a bootable USB flash drive
form Ubuntu?

Sure .. but please read the bit below in red first ;)

First let me explain that dd is very unforgiving .. enter the output file (of=) incorrectly and it will not think twice about overwriting your entire hard drive  .. so BE CAREFUL

OK for this example I'm assuming your USB stick is
/dev/sdb
and that the Peppermint 5 ISO image is called
Peppermint-5-20140623-i386.iso
and is on your desktop.

Code: [Select]
cd ~/Desktopthen
Code: [Select]
sudo dd if=Peppermint-5-20140623-i386.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=1M

If you're unsure which device node is your USB stick
Code: [Select]
sudo fdisk -lmay help you identify it.

If you're unsure .. post the output from that command back here.
