revisiting: I forgot my password.

Sometimes, even us old timers, long time users of peppermint os still run up against bafflement.

 ::)

Several weeks ago, my main install of PMX Respin on my desktop began not allowing me to login. Being distracted with other things, I simply turned it off and let it sit.

https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,8951.msg91197.html#msg91197

I have run thru all the lost password tutorials, but I can't get past the login screen. Thing is, I never forgot my password. I know what it is, and the root shell prompt accepts it while I am in the process of changing it to something else.

but the stupid login screen will not budge, nor am I allowed to use the guest login.

While I know it might be quicker to 'just reinstall PMX" ... I prefer not to, as I have 30 some ICE SSBs which are a pain to recreate.

Sorta the same procedure as the prior link... doesn't work...  :-X

and I learned it's NOT letting me change the login password... only the old original one works... you know, the one i didn't forget but that damn login screen that I never enabled won't let me pass thru.

That can happen if your / partition fills up. Check that there's free space and then do an upgrade.
